Anyone on these forums play Final Fantasy XI?

I got it when it debutted and just this summer have gotten back into it. I spend all of my time playing this game. I love it to no end. Great entertainment that has no end in sight from what i have seen.

FFXI carries over the content [summons, armour, etc] but the gameplay is completely different. It's an MMORPG, no other FF is like XI. Ace is a huge FF fan but didn't care too much for XI. I think that if you've never played an MMORPG, you should try this one out.

Its not like FFXI is a bad game, there are just so many things that get annoying. I like the old FF games a lot, but XI is defiantely not my kind of game.

Go to war - City of Heroes? Of any MMORPGs, I would say to go out and get FFXI: for the FF fan, Champions of Norrath: Realms of Everquest: for the people who don't want a fee, or perhaps just wait to see how Matrix Online and the LoTR MMORPGs sail.

City of Heroes....

Actually, once you have one MMORPG you can't very well get another. At least, I can't. Any time to play them I would spend playing FFXI, time spent playing another MMORPG would waste my FFXI game time.... I waste a lot of time.

For a FF addict, XI is not one of my favorite games.

1...Monthly Fee
2...Take nearly DAY to download and install patches and the whatnot.
3...The gameplay to me...not FF'ish. I just don't think this game should of been number 11.

They should just charge $100 for a good game and no monthly charge. If it was that way I'd be playing it months ago. But I just can't afford $10 a month and be like rushing around to do stuff to get your money's worth...\

They charge $100 for the PS2 version, and you still have to pay a monthy fee. But for the PS2 version, you get the hdd along with the game.

It's $90 for the game and HDD for PS2 but mostly the HDD is a big factor I'm guessing, The PC version is usually $50 and just about all PS2 games are $50 when they first come out. But you still think they could work around the monthly fee thing though...

Its not really Final Fantasy that is making the charge though. Its playonline. The FF charge is only a couple bucks. Playonline's charge is around $10 when I played it.

MMORPGs arnt really that bad when it comes to the monthly thing. What i did i when out and bought 90 days worth of time for city of heros for only $30 (30days came free w/ sign up so its realy 60 days for $30). I once thought as you guys did but now im adicted to this game. You gotta remember that 90 days is a long time too. So I got alot of gameplay i can do. $30 for 60 days isnt really that bad, I mean alot of people spend $30 in a day. Its $2 a day to play city of heros. Pluss most people only have time for one MMORPG. So its not as expensive as you think. Hell its gunna be early december before i have to go out and buy more time. Totaly I payed $80 for COH and the time card. I didnt think it was to bad. Plus they constantly keep upgrading it so thats an added pluss. Hell look at the other games you only get patches like once or twice a year. But seriously Its fun. Its a really cool gamming experiance. I want you guys to at least try one MMORPG in your live time. Then come back to me and tell me what you think...

Even though I have never played COH it seems to be a decent game. I have heard good and bad things about it, but no MMORPG is perfect. FFXI is doing so well because of the Sqaure and Final Fantasy name. If the same game was released by another company without the FF name and Sqaure of the box, there is no way it would be as hot as it is now. I'm sure it would be doing decently, but I couldn't imagine how it could be this far along.

You're exactly right.... but what do you mean? Square Enix had to shove it in there somewhere...

Really? I thought all MMORPGs upgraded often. My Gilgamesh server was down for eight hours yesterday for updates.

And you're right, MMORPGs are a fantastic genre. They bring new frontiers to gaming. But, uh... one at a time, please.
