Well Ad-aware SE has been released.  You can get it from http://www.download.com/3000-2094-10045910.html?legacy=cnet

I have used the old versions of Ad-aware, and it sounds like this version will be even better. I don't have the time to download it, and test it out now, but I will later on.

I have been using Ad-aware for quite some time as well and I love it.  I have yet to try the new version of ad-aware but hopefully I won't be disappointed by it.

Do you run Spybot and/or something else aswell? Because I always run one after the other just to make sure I get as much as I can off...

Yeah but Spybot never seems to find as much stuff as Ad-aware does.  Even in its unupdated state Ad-aware will still find a ton of stuff.

Spybot gets updated about once every week or two.

Upgrading to SE isn't a mandatory update though? I mean if we still want to use the previous version and keep on the updates we should be fine on spyware anyways?

I believe it is manditory.  I haven't seen any updates for the older version of Ad-aware in the past few days

Oh, and about SpySweeper. Its not a bad program, it can find a lot of stuff, but you have to pay around $30 for the full version, (can't update it without paying) and if you have Spybot and Ad-Aware, there is no reason to have it.

Why would you pay for Spysweeper when you have too perfectly able applications already available for free?

Also for the record Ad-aware does not get updated daily.  It is usually updated every 2 or 4 days.

You also have to remember that the developers of ad-aware are making money off of the software as well so of course they are going to be updating it a little more frequently.  The only way that the developers of Spybot make any money is if someone donates.

I'd donate to Spysweeper and Mozilla if I had more money. I did buy some Mozilla shirts, so I guess that counts a little bit.

Spybot definatly runs slower and seems to pickup the same stuff time and time again for me. Ad-aware looks and runs better and is a whole lot easier to use. Plus you can pay a few bucks and get all the locked features Wink It's my choice heh

They are both really nice programs, but I have had occasions where Spybot picks up what Ad-aware didn't get and vice versa. It seems you have to have both programs on your computer.

Yeah it doesn't hurt, if I need to I'll start ad-aware and make sure there isn't anything. Then before I head out for a while or something I'll startup avg and spybot and let that finish up while I'm gone. Some way to do something with lost time.

I don't know notice a whole lot of time difference between Spybot and Adware. Adware was about 5 minutes, and Spybot was about 7 minutes.

It usually takes a lot longer for me. I'm going to have to clock them one day. You also have a faster processor, 4 times as much ram, and don't run as many programs as I do so there could be a difference in time there aswell. And when I run it on the family computer it has the same amount of ram as me, 256, and a 1.4GHz instead of the 2.0 that I have. So that's slowing me down even more.

They would probably be even more effective if you ran it when all your other programs aren't running. Like on startup. That way you don't have  a lot of stuff to clog it up, and with less processes running, the better chance you have of catching more stuff.
