I got this error once the other day and hit yes, installed all of it then go to open Windows Media Player and it pops up again. It's preventing me from getting some streaming videos and everything so I'd like to resolve it fairly quickly.

You'll have to type the address into your browser for it to work. I'm having some hosting issues now...

Did you uninstall WMP and then reinstall it or did you jsut install the file you downloaded over the old version of WMP?

I just installed it over the old one...
I'll try reinstalling it and get back to you on what I get this time around.

EDIT: Actually all I see is Windows Media Player Hotfix in Add Remove Programs... huh

Okay I think one of the windows updates made it possible to run WMP but I still can't watch the streaming videos. When I try to, like on gamespot.com, it crashes my current IE windows...

Perhaps the codecs need replacing as well?

Sounds like format/reinstall time to me, heh.

That is what I was thinking about suggesting but was jsut waiting a few days to see if someone else could come up with anything else.  If you don't want to lose all your information and installed programs you could always try repairing your installation of XP.

A quick side note.  Have you tried scanning your computer for spyware and viruses?  One of those could be causing the problems you are having.

I know that Techy reformated his comp around 2 weeks ago, and I also know that he
isn't one to scan for viruses/spyware.  Shocked

No actually I scan for spyware / virii atleast once a week. But I can't really reformat now since my CD burner / DVD-ROM drive is being replaced now.

WMP works but when I try and stream a file on gamespot it asks if I want to report the error of IE to Microsoft and then it crashes.

well i'm not an expert or anything, but i've also had problems with streaming on wmp. i found that the actual problem was that wmp was not acquiring the licenses for the streamed video. all i had to do was set wmp licensing to automaticly acquire the license required. steps for wmp10 below...

hope my 2 cents helps...

check "acquire licensing automaticly for prtected content"

click ok
