I just got a new ghz cpu. I want to put linux on it (I have a spare 3gb hard drive laying around). What is an easy distro to install that I can install folding on (pretty easily, because i'm a noob at linux).

I believe that Damn Small Linux can run off of a pocket cd. Just so you can know...

Damn Small Linux is a Live Linux distro. It might be a little bit hard to install to a HD, Mandrake would probably be the easiest install.

It doesn't need to be installed on the hard drive to run F@H. As long as the hard drive is formatted with a file system that DSL can recognize, you would be able to mount the hard drive, download and run from the hard drive.

Damn Small Linux
There you can download DSL. Very small at only 50mb. You could burn it to a bussiness card CD, or a regular cd. Reboot your computer with the disk in the cd-rom drive and it will start up.
As for folding, you'll have to ask someone else. I don't fold.

I would also like to know how to run FAH from a bootable Linux distro (Knoppix). Thanks.

I don't want to do it from a cd. Don't want to wear the drive out. But I would like to install a small distro (with a gui and run linux that way).

Slackware
Install Slackware 9.1 or 9.0 and you could use Wine to run the Windows version of F@H for the computer.

Why wouldn't you just use the Linux version of F@H?

He could, or he could use Wine. They both get the job done.
