Audio importance?

So...any other crazy people who spend bazillions on audio stuffs?

NOTHING TO SEE IN THIS LINE OF TEXT SO LOOK BELOW!

A while ago I was in the market for new headphones, so someone suggested I go to a certain forum for information on that very subject (both the forum and the person will remain anonymous in this situation, but they both start with h)  It started as a 'ok...these look good and they are 15 dollars, sounds good to me' and now its up to 'maybe...just a better amp will make it spectacular'

Just wondering if anyone else is suffering a similar misfortune =/

My motherboard has built in 6.1 audio with optical outputs which would be nice if I were using the system as a media center hooked up to my sterio and tv, but just as a regular workstation, a 2.1 speaker set (I have a Creative set that cost around $80) is more then enough to get decient sound from music and games.
