Hi. I want to change my CPU to a "AMD Athlon 64 3700+ Socket 939" . Right now i got a "AMD Athlon XP 2600+ core 333FSB" and a "GA-7N400-L1 nForce2 Ultra400 Dual Channel DDR 400+" motherboard. Can u please let me know if my motherboard could run the new Cpu , and if not could u recommend a new motherboard ( not to expensive) . Thanks.

No your motherboard would not be compatible with an Athlon 64.  The Athlon XP and Athlon 64 use two completely different sockets.  As for the motherboard, are you looking at using a Socket 939 or Socket AM2 processor with the motherboard?

Are you going to be overclocking at all?  Do you want the ability to run SLI/CrossFire down the road?  You are aware that most socket 939 motherboards now a days use PCI-E video cards so that means you will probably have to upgrade your video card as well.  I believe there are a few out there that use AGP video cards but there are very few that offer that.  You could also get a board with onboard video until you could afford a better video card but then you would be somewhat limited on the games that you would be able to play.

A few motherboards that I would recommend are:

Asus A8N-E
Asus A8N-VM <<< Onboard NVIDIA GeForce 6100 video
Asus A8R-MVP <<< Onboard ATI Radeon Xpress 200 video

You could also get a decent video card for around 100 the will play a few games but nothing special that will hold you over till you can get a good one. You could also go am2 since you don't have an 939 system already. That would be a good idea since IDK if AMD is planning to put K8L on just am2 or both am2 and 939. I got an am2 system in the works now and its only a bit over $1,000USD no os tho or speakers but a whole working system. Only issue with am2 is there aren't a whole lot of motherboards to choose from.
