I have HDD SMART monitoring on my motherboard, and a new Samsung ATA/133 hard drive. Would it be a good idea to enable the SMART monitoring?

It isn't a bad idea to have SMART enabled but it will usually only let you know if there is a problem with the hard drive when the computer first boots up.  At least it may give you a chance to backup any important data.

Yeah it couldn't hurt - usually when SMART starts yelling at you it's time to make a quick backup!
