I have a system with two hard drives, both ATA, one set up as primary IDE master, the other as primary slave. Now, both hard drives used to appear in the system, which was running Linux, and both were used. The only change I made was reformatting both to install Windows on the system as the only OS. Windows saw the primary IDE master and was able to install to it; however, it cannot see the second drive, which is unformatted. The drive does appear in the BIOS list, however. What do I need to do to make Windows see this drive so I can use it in Windows? I want to format it as NTFS.

Edit: Oh, it does appear in the Device Manager list, it's just not listed in My Computer.

You need to format it before it'll appear in my coumputer.  Go into your Admin Tools and then Disk Management and format the slave drive.  It'll show up in my computer and be avaliable for use after that.

Does the drive have any partitions on it?  If it doesn't have at least one partition, the hard drive will not show up under my computer.

Oh, okay.

I never formatted a drive under Windows. I thought it'd just show up and I could right-click and select Format.  smiley

Usually it will if there is at least one partition on it.

Right, it won't show up unless it's in some recognizable state. Load up a live-cd and run cfdisk or something - that can take care of your formatting problems.

If you want to format your hard drive using windows you can follow these steps:

1) Right click by computer.
2) Click "Manage"
3) Click "Disk Management" under Storage on the left frame.
3) Right click the grey area next to the information column and select "Add Partition" (or something like that)

Hopefully that will help you.
