Yeah I know its kind of dumb but I've never had it happen on any other drives before. Anyways I got this computer back in 2002 I guess it was and it seemed like the disks would get pretty hot after being in the cd burner/dvd-rom drive if I played them as like a music disk or something even.
Later on that drive broke and I got a replacement one and it seems now that even if I put in a music CD and play it a few tracks the thing is hotter than the pavement outside on a 90 degree day. Is it just me or does it just kind of seem like an odd thing to be happening? I've never had it happen on any of my other drives, though those are a lot slower I've had disks in those drives running for days and they never seem to get this warm.
All I can figure is that its the speed of the drive but it seems kind of extreme. That's just me, but what do you all think?

I have never noticed this before but when do you notice that the cds are hot?  Right after you are done playing/reading from the cd or after it has sat idle in the drive for awhile.  If it happens right after you are done reading from the cd then it is probably caused by the laser reading the cd and is nothing you need to worry about.

It could be a problem, but has it caused any problems? or is it just oddly hot. I would say that if it is a sign of a problem, it's either a whack cd drive or your system is hot. You're not burning up your proc or anything, are you?

Make sure everything is normal in your case and things aren't hot in there, then see if you have any problems. While most cds will be noticably warmer after use, hot is not the word I'd use. If it's not causing any problems, I wouldn't worry about it. I had a system some idiot sold me back in the day that I learned was overclocked. Thing ran at 150* f idle, but it never quit. It was junk, but it didint stop, and I didin't worry. Love them amd t-birds.

Your concern is reasonable, and I really haven't experienced this, but if it's been running like this for some time, that may just be how things go.
