Here is the deal.  I just put together a new system.  Everything seemed to be going great.  I installed windows with no problems.  I then took the XP cd out of the tray and I got the message "Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk And Press Enter".  So I switched the bios to just boot from the hard drive.  The drive won't boot (same message).  I then switched it back to cd and put the xp cd in.  After it would see the cd and ask to press any key to boot (i wouldn't) it would start loading windows from the hard drive.  It only loads windows if there is a bootable cd in the drive.

Any ideas on what is causing this?  I have tried a second hard drive with no success.

You have me stumped.  I thought about what could be causing the problem for about 30 minutes and couldn't figure anything out.  Perhaps if you are still having problems with it tomorrow I would be willing to call microsoft up and see if they know anything (believe it or not their support for businesses and OEMs is quite good).

I'm not really sure what I did.  I upgraded the firmware and that didn't work.  Then I reset the defaults for the mobo and it still didn't work.  Then a few reboots later it took affect.  The only thing I changed in the bios was the boot order (it put the floppy back as the first device and the cd as the third).  Either way i'm glad that's solved.  Now I just need to get a copy of xp home (as cheaply as possible).

hmm that is weird and I would have never thought of that as being a solution.  Computers can be so weird at times...
