I know there's cards circulating around that have the distance to reach networks as far as a mile away but have any of you used / heard any complaints about any of these cards? I don't want to go drop 70+ bucks on a card and not end up happy with it.

Right now a PCMIA card would be nice, I guess throwing this next part is probably not going to help any, but I have one problem. The only laptop I have now is an old Toshiba still running win 95. Although I am planning on getting a newer laptop with 2000+ on it soon it's all I have to work with so far. Either way I'd still like to find a card for the future.

And if possible a PC Card / USB adapter for my desktop would work aswell...

Link To Card

I beleive this is what JsutTechy was talking about. Anyway, if you read through the spec list it does talk about wireless networking from a mile away, but you have it has to be an "open field" and pared with the ParkerVision acess point. So, if you try to acess someones wireless point from over .3 miles away, and having to deal with walls of houses, I seriously doubt that you would get favorable results. But hey, the odds are you woud might a network that was closer and more relaibe so it may be worth a shot.

I have actually never even heard of the company ParkerVision.

That is quite interesting but I haven't heard that company either.  Perhaps I will try to get one of those to review for the site and let you know the outcome.

Well I was hoping to try and get to some people's houses around me. One in particular about .85 miles away. The thing is I live in an old town with a lot of old houses, probably  50+ betwen our houses and like 8 blocks between us.

Secondly, if I could get through all the houses and all do you think I would be able to connect to just a normal D-Link router or my Linksys router? Because I've seen that they offer this aswell:

Then what are you guys's thoughts on the router? Could I be a mile away with a normal card and connect to that or should I have the mile card and the mile router? Lastly, if I had both would that mean I could be over a mile away from the router?
