I don't think there is a way to install iTunes without installing quicktime.  It is kind of stupid if you ask me.  I will do some searching for you later...

I'm reinstalling windows as we speak or at least trying to and that includes a fresh copy of iTunes ill mess with it and see if you can.  It's a good idea to have quicktime anyways though.  I think it runs better the WMP

i absolutly hate quicktime.  i have never been a fan.  but i am also the same way with realplayer.

I actually like quicktime, it doesn't bother me that much. Mostly because I'd rather have quicktime show videos in the browser over windows media player since it's more streamline and easier to use I think. That and I just hate realplayer for some reason.

I hate propriatary formats when it comes to videos.  If something requires a special player, I usually don't install the required player just to watch something.
