I received a couple of 2 Gig notebook hard drives from a friend.  I tested them and they work just fine in my computer (using the adapter, the bios sees them).  I think I want to get an external USB enclosure and use it for additional storage or some place to back up files.  Is there any good enclosures that you guys know about.  I really would prefer one that doesn't need an addition power outlet.  Just uses USB.

Yes, that is what I was talking about.  Anyone have any good or bad experiences with certain brands or models?

Like I said before, laptop parts are not good to be switched around. Find out which company the hdds are from, and match them up with the laptop manufacturer. That will guarntee it will work.

I don't want to put it in a different laptop.  I want to carry around in an enclosure to allow me to make back ups of other peoples computers when I work on them.

here is one example: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....-145-329&depa=0

Its only $20 bucks (including shipping).

I didn't ask if they had them.  I asked if anyone has tried them before.  And if there is some I should stay away from or if there is some that works pretty good.

Please read the whole thread before posting.

I said I didn't know if they made one for laptop drives. My fault.

If it is external it isn't going to matter.

I have used several of the IO Gear usb powered hard drives and I really like them.  The only bad thing is that the hard drive comes with it and you can't change the hard drive if you wanted to.

I threw an old 2gig HD in my desktop just for the heck of it and to mess around with. Though it was from another desktop that I'd had for about 7 years or so now. The good thing is that they're still working and all. The only complaint I've had with them is that they're slower than the new ones and they're really noisy. But I'd imagine that the case you're looking for would eliminate some of the noise.
