XP just alerted me that it is trying to download some monster of a file as an update. JsutTechy told me that it was SP2. (Remeber, I am using dialup, so monster to me, is probably pretty small to you all) Is it really SP2 that it is trying to download?

How big is the file that it is trying to download or don't you know.  It probably is service pack 2 because Automatic update only downloads critical updates.  Most of the criticial updates with the exception of service packs are realitivly small.

It doesn't mess with your computer.  There are several programs that will not work properly with SP2 however...

I have yet to run into any major problems while running SP2.  So far it runs great...

Yeah it's SP2 because I always click on the update manager and click on the option to choose what I install. That's all I had to install the other day so have fun installing some mandatory thing you'll never use ace Tongue

You'll have to hit unblock on about a million programs though. Once you start mozilla, Trillian, games, etc.

Well, it took a damn long time to download it over dialup, but I have it installed. So far there seems to be no problems. I have the Windows Firewall and an IE popup blocker. (Like I trust either one) But since I don't have a firewall, and I have two computers on my network, (couldn't I just use my Linux computer as a firewall?) I guess I'll just use Mircosofts firewall.

Yeah you could setup linux as a firewall though I've never done it. I'm not sure if it'd have to be a dedicated computer or you could run it in the background. You'll have to look into that one.

You could do it either way.  The way that most people do it is with a dedicated pc and run smoothwall.  It doesn't take much of a computer to run it either.  I know people that run it on Pentium 133mhz computers.
