Now before this turns into a big flame war, remember that it is a personal preference.
I personally prefer Intel. I have nothing against AMD and I have a few AMD systems but when given a choice I would choose Intel. For one I really like the hyper threading and have had a lot less problems from the intel systems that we build opposed to the AMD systems.
BTW did you purposly leave out an option for "other" because there are other processors out there besides Intel and AMD.

No, because I don't want people to pick other. I want an AMD, Intel, or Same result.

VIA!
Well I have an intel now but I'm thinking of getting an AMD if I have the option next time. If I'm not mistaken a 1600+ should run at 1.4GHz but as fast as a 1.6GHz intel? I'm probably wrong so someone fill me in here heh...

You're crazy. We all know IBM's POWER architecture and the PowerPC architecture are better than both of those. :-P

I voted AMD because like..... AMD Athlon XP 2500... that chip is stock speed at like 1.7GHz. But it is equivilent to an 2.5GHz Intel chip. its just that great

I think the fact that AMD's can be a lot cheaper than Intels drive people away. What they thought is working for them, can also work against them. If you think think about, when people buy a PC, they want something nice and good. They see some computer with an Intel chip and they are pleased. They look at the one with the AMD, with the same specs, but its a lot cheaper. I think a lot of people would rather go with Intel, something they have heard a from before, and something they trust.

i thought the 2500 meant that it was equivelent to 2.5ghz compared to the older amds. dont remember though. im probally just being a stupid little kid again. but whatever ill just leave you all alone to think then

Well heres a comparison:
AMDS:
1...Cheap
2...Great for gaming
3...Great Overclockers
Intels:
1...Great for multi-tasking
2...Very stable processors
Though i prefer my AMD over my Intel, i would still use both anytime.

I love my AMD Athlon 2600+, but intel is just as good for things that I don't do on a regualr basis.

I haven't noticed a huge difference between them. I have compiled huge files of code on an AMD and an Intel. Both are about the same. I don't really have a preferance.

Heres why AMD owns intel!!!
According to the Australian Personal Computers Magazine, October issue 2005 Vol 25 No 10...
The P4, pretty much every model, has worse performance, in Multimedia apps, Office activities and Games when compared to AMD CPUs, also Intel CPus are hotter(literally) than its corresponding AMD cpu... The sempron 3300 actually beat the P4 Extreme Edition in a multi media benchmark!!!
The P4 Extreme Edition fried an egg
"AMD's Athlon 64s were the clear Victors"
Benchmarks carried out on the following CPUs
Athlon 64 4000+ P4 670
Athlon X2 4800+ Pentium D 820
Athlon FX 57 Pentium Extreme Edition
Sempron 3300 Celeron D 351
I suggest you buy your self an APC mag if ur in aust... from any Newsagent or Coles/Woolworths Supermarket
Did i mention AMD is also Cheaper than Intel too?
AMD cpus, according to PC upgrade Booklet, by the makers of PC powerplay, say that when a new amd cpu is put out, it will work on motherboards that have the same socket, supported FSB only needs a Bios update(remember the Socket A?)... while intel CPUs when new ones released, need a new board
So...
AMD CPUs performs better than Intel CPUS
AMD CPUs stays cooler than Intel CPUs
AMD CPUs are cheaper than Intel CPUs
AMD CPUs are more compatable with more M/b than Intel CPUs
Intel is using its market share against AMD locking AMD out from deals with Companies such as Dell, IBM, Compaq etc
According to the Yr 12 HSC Business Studies course Intel would be using a marketing technique called Prestige pricing, which confuses buyers to think that that specific product is better than the rest... unfortunately its working for Intel and dooming users to poor performance and thus being ripped off

You say that you really love Intel’s Hyper Threading. Did you know that AMD has Hyper Transport that is basically that same thing? If you didn’t know about AMD’s Hyper Transport, I know why you prefer Intel over AMD, It’s because you buy more expensive Intel’s than AMD's. You probably spend 300+ on your Intel’s and use old ass AMD’s. Your one of those people that like Intel because more commercial computers use them. If you honestly didn’t know about AMD's Hyper Transport, then what I have said is true. And the whole less problems thing, I’d say that Windows have the most problems of all. Almost computer I’ve built (200+) is AMD and in my opinion it is just as functional and if not less problematic then Intel.
Well coming from a major gamer and a windows coder, I love AMD. Intel is a piece of [FILTER]crap[/FILTER] compared to it. If you do allot of gaming you’ll notice that AMD owns Intel on it. It loads way faster and when looking at stats on Tomshardware.com you’ll notice that AMD basically beats Intel every time. I am very familiar with Intel (so don’t think I am the kind of person who started with AMD and has used it ever since) so I know what I am talking about. Right now I am testing an Intel 3.2 GHz and I am about to over clock it to 3.61 GHz for an article on Tomshardware.com.

I have heard of Hyper Transport before but since when is it almost the same thing as Hyper Threading? Hyperthreading allows the processor to work on more than one thread at a time while Hyper Transport is a bus technology that deals with data being transmited between the processor and the rest of the computer.
No that is not the reason that I use Intel. The biggest reason that I use Intel is because they provided a lot more for me when I owned the computer stores. They would ocassionaly send me engineering samples and other things to help with my R&D work. Whenever I had any problems with an Intel processor, I could just call up my rep and get a replacement.
AMD on the other hand only called me when they wanted to sell me stuff or when they wanted money. I also had to buy all the AMD processors for my R&D work. AMD also made us go though the normal RMA department where we would usually have to wait on hold for a while.
Also we did not use all high end intel processors and "old ass" AMD processors. Most of the time the AMD rigs that we built were higher end than the intel rigs we sold.
However, now that I sold my share of the stores, I am starting to feel less and less loyality towards Intel. Right now AMD processors are by far superior. With 64-bit computers now out on the market, Hyperthreading has lost it's performance gain that it provided when multi-tasking. The next rig that I build will most likely have an AMD processor (Notice that the post you were referencing to was made more than a year ago. A lot has changed in that time).

I personally am an Intel fan, but within the last year AMD stepped it up in a huge way and their performance blows away intel's chipsets. I am also a big fan of supporting the American Enonomy. Intel just announced over a billion dollars in jobs will be outsourced to india.

I could be wrong but isn't Core 2 Duo much better then everything AMD has
